The role of the United States is in flux. The era of Trump resulted in capricious major disruptions of America's relationships with nearly all countries on the globe. Policies tended to be ad hoc and disruptive and greatly weakened any role the US might claim to "Free World" leadership. The Biden presidency has just begun and it is clear that the new government is working to reestablish America's world leadership role --however it is possible that the ship has already sailed. China is making major efforts to become the dominant economic power and its GDP will soon surpass that of the US. While the Biden administration is far more open and less capricious-- it is basically mercantilist--America First-- leaving much of the world open to China's advances.
